Giant Trance X Advanced SL 0

The name is a bit of a mouthful but perhaps something this expensive deserves a long name. Obviously it’s full carbon but looking closer there’s a tapered head tube, the welcome reappearance of pivot covers and what looks like titanium bolts. The Anthem X and Trance X carbon models are better late than never, same goes for Giant's 29ers. The bike looks great with the blue details!

There are three things I want to see on future Maestro full suspension bikes:
- 29in wheels, starting with the Anthem X, which is already rumoured to be in the 2011 lineup.
- Pivots with grease ports like Turner and Santa Cruz bikes currently have.
- The chainstay to seatstay strut moved to one side, Santa Cruz has done this perfectly on the BLT.
I’ll leave the rest up to Giant…

I want that bike, how much you think it will be going for?

I think it was close to $7000 but the only site that had pricing info has removed it.

Have you had a chance to compare this bike to the Ellsworth Epiphany? I have my search for a great climber/descender narrowed to these two. If you could have only one bike, which would you choose?

Unfortunately I haven’t ridden either the carbon Trance X or Epiphany but I did own the aluminium Trance X for a year. Without riding the Epiphany I can say there is next to no chance that the rear suspension will be either as plush or efficient as Giant’s Meastro design. The Trance X has a forward riding position which puts the rider in an excellent position for climbing. Descending the Trance X is a very plush and stable bike with quick handling. The rear end and headtube stiffness is also very good. Now there is a carbon Trance X it will also be pretty light so if I had to pick one it would be the Trance X.
